This blog is completely inactive as of January 5, 2012. The scope has become too limiting.
There will be no new posts, and comments will not be displayed on this blog hereon. I will leave the blog up as long as there are still readers.
I am still following Voluntary Simplicity, and have not become superficial or object based. However, while I try to only live with and keep things that are useful to me, I believe in being authentic and honest. That being said, I only keep what I use and what is necessary, but it is more than most minimalists due to my lifestyle. So, I cannot call myself a minimalist according to the current, approved definition. For instance, I own 10 suits. This is excessive to most minimalists, but necessary to my profession, where looking professional matters, and clients and bosses notice if you wear the same items every week. It is also difficult to wear the same things over and over in dirty New York trains, and looking clean and polished is important to me. I don’t own them because I am sucked in by the desire to possess things, but because they support my life goals and passions. Minimalism was a conduit to help me clarify and maintain my life goals, not the goal in itself. I grew tired of having to justify myself to stark minimalist because my life and goals are more important than the judgments and opinions of close minded, self righteous or bitter people.
I have no apologies, and was genuinely interested in minimalism, and still will continue to subscribe to and follow some of it’s beliefs. However, my focus and goals have become much more important than continuously, strictly monitoring my possessions and editing them frequently.
I do hope my tips on minimizing helped you as I still follow many of them as well. I thank you for readership and your comments.
Best of luck in your endeavors.
